...WAINTING FOR A DIRECT CONTACT BETWEEN BELGRADE AND PRISTINA!

SRSG was today in Belgrade for a periodic round of consultations with the Serbian Government where he underscored the need for a direct dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) Lamberto Zannier was today in Belgrade for a periodic round of consultations with the Serbian Government following the Security Council meeting in August and in anticipation of the UN General Assembly session on Kosovo in early September. He met with President Tadic, First Deputy Prime Minister Dacic, Minister Bogdanovic, State Secretary Ivanovic and various international stakeholders. In his conversations he underscored the need for a direct dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina to address open issues of common concern. He noted that while the UN will be ready to support this process, the EU should play a prominent role in facilitating such a dialogue, in view of the European perspective for the whole region. The SRSG also mentioned the UN Secretary-General’s concerns about the situation in the North, adding that direct dialogue and consultations will be particularly important in addressing issues of substance in that region. For its part, UNMIK will continue performing its functions under Resolution 1244 as mandated by the Security Council, to which it will continue to report periodically. Upon his return to Pristina, the SRSG will be available to inform the Kosovo authorities about the detailed contents of his discussions.
