SRSG deeply concerned over explosion in Mitrovica yesterday, calls on all sides to remain calm and for a rapid conclusion of the police investigation.
Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) Lamberto Zannier expressed his deep concern over the violence that occurred in Mitrovica yesterday and regrettably led to the death of one person. He offered his heartfelt condolences to the family of the victim of such unjustified violence. The SRSG called on all sides to refrain from provocative statements and to remain calm as the incidents yesterday are investigated. He fully expects all competent law enforcement authorities to take urgent measures to bring the perpetrators to justice. In this context, the SRSG recalled the concern expressed by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in his latest report to the UN Security Council over the risk of tensions in northern Kosovo and his call for progress based on transparency and dialogue with local communities and all relevant stakeholders. Condemnation of extremism and a long-term commitment to peaceful dialogue is a necessary condition for all communities in Kosovo to live side by side in peace.
